Steroids on Politics

If you want to hear another story about the negative balance of trade with China, consider this: The US is now the largest outlet for anabolic steroids made in China. Import duties? These drugs can arrive hidden in duty free products, gratis US customs regulations. So, every day we are importing–inviting– the seeds of our own destruction, without a whisper from Homeland Security. And the worst part? It’s not a secret....

What it Takes to Bench 500 lbs. RAW

This is not going to be a “how to” cook book on bench pressing 500 lbs. Indeed, it takes great genes, insane training, extreme desire and yes, anabolic steroids. Now, I’m not saying that every guy who benches 500 lbs. raw is on the sauce, but the truth is that most, by far are. I have been caring for men...

I’ve stayed away from writing about Human Growth Hormone- HGH and  any of the related agents such as IGF-1, IGF-1 Lr3 and IGF-1 DES simply because these agents have not been used or discussed in the main-stream medical community. Anabolic Androgenic Steroids- AAS have, in more recent years been getting a lot of attention and this is where I have been focusing my clinical attention...

Steroid Addiction

As a physician who has been treating men who have used or are using AAS since 2005, I am all too familiar with the psycho-endocrinal side effects of these drugs, notably anabolic steroid induced hypogonadism (ASIH), a form of hypogonadism which, although recognized by experts as unique to AAS users, (Rhanema et al, 2014) is not discussed in the FDA warning content. This is a serious omission...

There are some welcome changes taking place in the medical community which indicate that the number of  physicians knowledgeable enough, and interested in caring for Anabolic/Androgenic Steroid AAS users is likely to increase. A number of experts...

We have all heard it before, “Roid Rage” is BS. It’s not true! People say- there is no evidence that Roid Rage exists and that guy who is acting like a crazy jerk, known to be on steroids is just “an ASS-HOLE on steroids!” Ok, I get it, but being the Doc, I feel obligated to do my research on what is really going on here. Everyone knows...

EPIDEMIC: Of Low Testosterone In American Men

Is it true? With all this hype on men turning into women, I decided to take some time and do some of my own research on this topic for myself- here is what I found.

Trenbolone (Tren) AKA Fina 2 Medical Mysteries

Trenbalone is without a doubt the most powerful anabolic/androgenic steroid (AAS) known. Bro-Science vernacular tells us that injecting Tren can lead to “Tren-Cough”- a variant cough reaction immediately following an intramuscular injection that can range from a simply irritating tickle in the throat to a violet cough spasm leading to the sensation of asphyxiation. I have had patients tell me...

A Letter to Senator Christopher Murphy

Earlier this month, I sent a letter to my congressional representative, Senator, Chris Murphy, asking for his help with what I believe is a medical crisis, the under treatment of former and current anabolic steroid users. I am not the first to identify this crisis; almost a decade ago, researchers at Harvard University published their warning about this “emerging” healthcare crisis. (Kanayama, G et al, 2009) I am fully aware of the fact that AAS are illegal. However, as a physician...

Anabolic Steroids and Sex: The Good, The Bad and the Libido

Ok, this is going to be a good one! My articles are never boring, as I discuss how anabolic/androgenic steroids-AAS cause medical issues like early cardiovascular disease, low testosterone, gynecomastia and sundry organ disease, but this article will BLOW UP for one reason only- SEX!!!!!

It is true; most men who seek-out my unique medical services...

Our Youth Steroids Problem more Pressing

I cannot imagine what possible justification the U.S. Department of Justice has for spending time and money on investigating the Russian Olympics cheating scandal. The motivation can only be political -- pressure on Russia -- since there is no other advantage for us. It certainly does nothing to...

Anabolic Steroid Induced Gynecomastia

Anabolic/Androgenic steroid (AAS) use is associated with a host of side effects- some can be serious and cause medical disease, others are more of a nuisance and can lead to a poor quality-of-life and cosmetic issues like gynecomastia. Of all the known side-effects of AAS, gynecomastia has to be one of the most infamous...

Medical Issues To Be Aware of Associated With Anabolic Steroids part 2

Anabolic Steroid Induced Hypogonadism (ASIH) AKA Acquired Shutdown of the Hypothalamic Pituitary/Testicular System

ASIH androgen deficiency has long been discussed in professional literature. It denotes the shutting down of the hypothalamic pituitary/testicular system (HPT) as a result of long term anabolic/androgenic steroid (AAS) use. The condition is...

THIS IS HUGE NEWS!! I am one of the few American Physicians experienced in Anabolic Steroid Induced Hypogonadism- ASIH and I have been carefully evaluating men for this condition since 2005. The FDA is making the right move with this warning, although my fear is that there are not enough trained and experienced physicians in America to deal with this. Physicians are already overloaded with patient demands, now men with Low-testosterone, not to mention men potentially abusing anabolic/androgenic steroids AAS may suffer further as this new ruling may separate more men in need from expert medical care.

I am the first American physician in 2005 to deal with anabolic steroids in a professional/ non judgmental manner. I'm very happy to see that the medical community is finally doing something about it!

VERY IMPORTANT REVIEW!!!

I've reviewed the recent NCAA task force's guidelines on how to screen college athletes prior to participating in sports. They are not recommending universal ECG's. Like many other expert physicians caring for young athletes, I adamantly disagree with this decision, although I understand why they are doing so. Here is why- Universal screening all NCAA athletes with ECG's would be too expensive and the accurate interpretation of such ECG's would be difficult and may not lead to saved lives.

What to do? If you or someone you love is either participating in college sports or planning on doing so, make sure that person sees a Board Certified Internist, Family Medicine Physician or best, a Board Certified Cardiologist.

Dr. O

Huge great news for men living on testosterone! This large, well done study shows testosterone for chronic use appears safe for the heart and prostate! This is more great news, but men at risk for heart disease and prostate cancer will always need to be closely monitored by an expert physician.
